Election of the Rector of NCU
On 12 March, the election of the Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń for the term 2024-2028 will begin at 4 p.m. in the NCU Main Hall Aula. The event will be streamed by the NCU TV.
Two candidates are running for the seat of the NCU Rector in the coming term: prof. dr habil. Andrzej Tretyn from the Faculty of Biological and Veterinary Sciences and prof. dr habil. Wojciech Wysota from the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management.
The new Rector will be elected during a meeting of the Electoral College, which will follow an open election meeting attended by the NCU staff, doctoral students and students. During the meeting, the profiles of the two candidates will be presented, as well as their programme and personnel proposals (concerning the positions of Vice-Rectors). Every member of the university community attending the meeting will have the opportunity to ask the candidates questions. The meeting will be streamed by the NCU TV:
The Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń is elected in a secret ballot by 250 electors - representatives of students, doctoral students and staff from all groups. The candidate who obtains an absolute majority of validly cast votes in the presence of the required number of eligible voters (at least 3/5 of electors) becomes the Rector. If at the first meeting a quorum is not reached or none of the candidates obtains an absolute majority of the votes, an additional election is held on a new date set by the Election Committee.
In connection with the elections, Rector's hours will be in force across the University from 1 p.m. on Tuesday 12 March to allow the NCU community to attend or follow the open election meeting.
