Equality at the workshop

A working group meeting on Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (WP9), held on 25 and 26 April at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, served to exchange experiences and good practices among representatives of the YUFE member universities.

The WP9 group deals with the themes of equality, diversity and inclusivity. In addition to the regular online work, the group meets once a year stationarily at one of the partner universities (so far in Bremen, Cyprus and Rome).

The session in Toruń, held at the NCU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, was attended by people from the Universities of Essex, Antwerp, Maastricht, Rijeka, Cyprus and the University of Eastern Finland. It was opened by prof. dr habil. Przemysław Nehring, NCU Vice-Rector for Education and Executive Director of YUFE at the NCU, and our university was also represented by dr habil. Aleksandra Derra, NCU Prof. - the leader of the group at the NCU and the Deputy Rector for Equality - and dr Bartłomiej Chludziński, NCU's Academic Ombudsman working with the group.

It was a working meeting with a focus on sharing experiences on the institutional perspective on the role and specific tasks of the WP9 team in the new YUFE project chapter. It was accompanied by training on the effective implementation of equality and diversity initiatives, led by Karen Bush from the University of Essex. There was also a presentation of selected anti-discrimination and equality activities that are undertaken at the Nicolaus Copernicus University as part of the YUFE activities and more widely, including the work of the Equality Counselling #Inclusives, the Centre for Support and Personal Development, the Student Government, the Disability Team, the Feminist Academic Circle and the Equality Officer and her work with the Academic Ombudsman, the NCU's Deputy Rector for Safety, the NCU's Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator and those dealing with communication challenges at the University.
