Representatives of the scientific world of logic and philosophy of science will meet in Toruń at the first ever Polish Congress of Logic, which will take place from 22 to 26 September at the Institute of Philosophy of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

The Polish Association for Logic and Philosophy of Science (PTLiFN), the second oldest logic association in the world (after the Association for Symbolic Logic in the USA), is the main inspiration behind the first edition of the Polish Congress of Logic. The Congress aims to present key research for the development of contemporary logic, with particular emphasis on the ethos of Polish logicians associated primarily with the Lviv-Warsaw School and the Polish Mathematical School. The first Congress of Logic in Toruń is intended to launch a series of such events, which will be held every four years in different cities in Poland. It will be an opportunity to meet in an international circle and summarise four years of events, research and developments in global logic.

The PTLiFN is a continuation of the Polish Logical Association, which was founded in 1936 on the initiative of Jan Łukasiewicz and Alfred Tarski. Although opportunities for action were limited in post-war Poland, the idea of promoting logic was not abandoned, and as a result, the PTLiFN was established in 1991. Its members are primarily logicians, mathematicians, computer scientists, linguists and philosophers, but due to its interdisciplinary nature, it is also open to anyone interested in logic in a broad sense, including semiotics, formal logic and scientific methodology.

The Polish Congress of Logic is being held as part of the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Over 30 experts from academic centres in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas have announced their participation in the event. The Congress is a series of smaller events, and in addition to numerous sessions, workshops and symposia, the programme also includes a panel discussion entitled 'Logic in the development of artificial intelligence', featuring experts from Poland, Australia, England and the Czech Republic. The event will be broadcast live. The event is organised by: the Polish Association for Logic and Philosophy of Science, the Department of Logic at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the Department of Logic and Cognitive Science at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and the Department of Logic at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw. The congress is co-financed from the state budget allocated by the Minister of Science and Higher Education as part of the 'Initiative of Excellence - Research University' programme.
