Inauguration of the academic year 2020/2021
On Thursday, October 1, the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń will inaugurate the new academic year. The organization of this year's ceremony will be prepared according to the restrictions resulting from the epidemic situation.
The ceremony will begin in the University Aula at 11.00 a.m. During the ceremony the new Rector will receive the insignia. Traditionally, there will be matriculation of first-year students and students beginning their education at the University Secondary School. The titles of the Best Graduate, Best Student and Best Student-Sportsperson in the academic year 2019/2020 will also be awarded. The inaugural lecture, in accordance with university tradition, will be given by the outgoing Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University, Professor Andrzej Tretyn. The title of the lecture: From Regional University to European Research University. Before the ceremony, at 10:15 a.m., the NCU Rector's Council will lay flowers at the monument of Nicolaus Copernicus in the Old Town Square (Rynek Staromiejski).
Admission to the ceremony will be possible only for invited persons – the invitations were received by members of the Senate of the previous and current term, representatives of the state and local government authorities, first year students taking the oath and students receiving awards. The participants of the ceremony have been assigned a place to ensure the appropriate distance, and throughout its duration the order to wear masks will apply.
Members of the academic community and all interested persons are invited to participate in the ceremony remotely. A live broadcast prepared by the university television will be available at www.tv.umk.pl.
