MOC and the European Space Agency
The researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Nicolaus Copernicus University are going to develop new calibration standards for organic molecular contaminants (MOC) measurements for the European Space Agency. If the development is successful, the new standards could be used in the laboratories of European space equipment suppliers.
The methodology for preparing calibration standards according to the standards of the ECSS (European Cooperation for Space Standardization) will be developed for the European Space Research and Technology Center (ESTEC), the main development and testing centre of the European Space Agency for spacecraft and space technology.
The project started in December 2021 and will last 12 months. The research will be carried out at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in the emerging MIC-KET laboratories. The project is a continuation of the cooperation started in 2015 between the Nicolaus Copernicus University and the ESA, which is part of the trend of practical scientific research that will be used by researchers, entrepreneurs and students.
