NCU OnBoard – welcome aboard!
For the benefit of international students and in-coming staff, the NCU OnBoard app has been developed – a digital guide that provides step-by-step guidance on the most important aspects of academic and everyday life in Toruń and Bydgoszcz.
The tool is designed to help foreign nationals adapt to life at the University: whether studying, attending doctoral school or working. It will also be useful for all members of the Nicolaus Copernicus University community who organise visits by international guests and seek information on formalities and regulations related to, for example, the legal residence of foreigners in Poland.
The application responds to the challenges faced by people from abroad: complex administrative procedures, uncertainty regarding Polish legal regulations and the need to quickly adapt to a new environment - say Marta Żuchowska and Aleksandra Kowalska from the International Partnerships and Educational Mobility Department, co-authors of the application. - Thanks to the digitisation and centralisation of resources, we have tried to ensure the consistency and timeliness of information, streamline the handling of formalities and increase the comfort of studying and working at the Nicolaus Copernicus University. It is also a step towards modernising services and strengthening the University's position as an open and international community-friendly institution - they add.
What can you find on the platform?
Among the 10 thematic modules, the 'Before you arrive' tile plays an important role – it is addressed to people preparing to come to Toruń. It contains, among other things, details related to the visa application procedure, information about accommodation options in Toruń and Bydgoszcz, as well as basic information about Poland.
The 'During your stay' section is a source of comprehensive information for people coming to the Nicolaus Copernicus University, including information about the structure of the University, the location of the Toruń and Bydgoszcz campuses, as well as the most important IT tools and systems used at the University, such as USOS and MS TEAMS. Here you can also find information about the University Library, the University Centre for Foreign Languages, and the information point for the international community of the Nicolaus Copernicus University – International Point, located in the Copernican Integration Centre.
Separate modules are devoted to issues concerning international members of staff and doctoral students. The website also contains basic legal regulations ('Legal matters') and less formal rules of etiquette, which can be found under the 'Savoir vivre' tile.
The NCU OnBoard platform is available both on the University's website and as a web application that can be downloaded free of charge from app stores: Google Play and AppStore.
