Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski at the NCU

Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, PhD, Eng., astronaut of the European Space Agency, will meet with the academic community of the region and students from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie schools at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń on 20 November as part of the nationwide technological and scientific tour 'IGNIS – Poland Reaches for the Stars'.

The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń is one of the stops on the 'IGNIS – Poland Reaches for the Stars' tour, during which Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, PhD Eng.visits 17 leading Polish universities.

The series – described by the astronaut himself as the first true Polish Space Master Class – combines scientific knowledge with practical experience gained from the IGNIS space mission. At the heart of the programme are 13 experiments conducted on the International Space Station, symbolising the technological leap forward made by Polish science and its growing participation in global space research.

The event in Toruń will be divided into two parts: an academic part, addressed to students, doctoral students and university staff from the region, and an educational part for children from primary and secondary schools.

Academic part

The meeting for the academic community of the region will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the NCU Main Auditorium Aula at 11 Gagarina in Toruń.

During the event, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, PhD, Eng., will talk about space, modern technologies, his journey into orbit, the IGNIS mission in which he participated, and the importance of such initiatives for the future.

Event rules and regulations

Educational part

The educational part of the event 'IGNIS – Poland reaches for the stars' will begin at 13:30 at the NCU Collegium Humanisticum  (ul. Bojarskiego 1 in Toruń). It will open with workshops led by Magdalena Maszewska from the Aleksander Jabłoński Foundation. This will be followed by a meeting between the children and Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski.

Registration for the event will open on 10 November on the Polish Space Agency website.

The astronaut's visit to the Nicolaus Copernicus University (at both locations) will be accompanied by demonstrations and presentations by student research groups operating at our University.

The organizers of the science and technology tour 'Poland Reaches for the Stars' are the Ministry of Development and Technology, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Polish Space Agency in cooperation with the European Space Agency and Polish universities visited as part of the tour.
