The Academic High School with International Achievements
Students from The Academic High School in Toruń with distinction represented Poland at prestigious international subject olympiads once again. They were awarded medals in informatics, physics, geography, artificial intelligence, and economy, competing with the best young participants from numerous countries.
This year, achievements of young students from the Academic High School can be presented as an impressive list of the school successes. Medals won in Italy, Sweden, Latvia, Romania, Kazakhstan, Greece, and China show how extensive interests and skills of students from that school from Toruń can be.
Patrycja Pisanko won a silver medal on the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI 2026) in Cesenatico in Italy. The whole team of four participants from Poland returned from the competition with four medals: gold, silver, and two bronze medals.
Jan Nasieniewski won the bronze medal during the 10th European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO 2026) which was held in Gothenburg, Sweden. He represented Poland among the European top young scientists.
Another two bronze medals were awarded to Wojciech Rózga i Artur Falenta during the Baltic Regional Geography Olympiad (Baltic iGeo), which took place in Jelgava, Latvia. The competition was attended by representatives of Estonia Lithuania, Latvia, Poland as well as, for the first time, Germany. From among the five finalists from Poland, two of them were from The Academic High School.
Jakub Ptaszkiewicz also achieved great success, winning a silver medal on the International Science Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) taking place in Astana, Kazakhstan. Jakub is also a finalist of the European Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (EUROAI 2026) held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
The Academic High School students who participated in competitions in economy also performed exceptionally well. Patryk Sudzik won a silver medal during an international olympiad held in Olympia, Greece, where the team from Poland was awarded with the total of four medals. Then, Patryk Sudzik and Szymon Rajzer won bronze medals during the International Economics Olympiad (IEO 2026) in Shenzhen, China.
The Academic High School was established 28 years ago. First students entered the Nicolaus Copernicus University School Complex, then called Academic Lower Secondary School and High School in Toruń, in 1998. This educational institution is the first school for exceptionally talented students established in Poland. Its tradition refers to the Academic Gymnasium, an Old Polish well-known higher school founded and functioning in the 16th century. as well as to the Jan and Jędrzej Śniadecki State High School established by the Vilnius University. In the 2023/2024 school year, 383 students started their education in the Academic High School. The school educates young people in three specialized profiles: a mathematics - computer science – physics profile, biology and chemistry profile, and business profile. The high school is supervised by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
