We bid farewell to Dr. Tomasz Jędrzejewski

It is with a sense of great loss and immense sorrow that we received the news of the death of Doctor Tomasz Jędrzejewski, Chancellor of our university from 2019 to 2024. We have lost an outstanding expert and a devoted colleague.

Tomasz Jędrzejewski was 55 years old. He devoted his entire professional life to Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

We join the family of the deceased in their deep sorrow.

Dr. Tomasz Jędrzejewski was born in 1970 in Toruń. He graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at Nicolaus Copernicus University (1994), where he also obtained his doctorate in Law (2002). From 1994 to 2018, he worked at the Department of Administrative Law and was the vice- Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration. On October 1, 2012, he was employed in the administration of Nicolaus Copernicus University as the head of the Organizational and Legal Office. From 2014, he served as vice-Chancellor and then vice-Chancellor for Administrative Affairs. From 2019 to 2024, he was Chancellor of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, and since 2025, was in charge of the Legal Department. He was also Secretary General of the International Copernican Research Center, established in 2023.

He has held numerous advisory and expert positions, including a member of the Polish President's team preparing the draft Higher Education Act, a member of the Polish Rectors Foundation team preparing a model statute for academic institutions in 2005 . He was also an expert for the Sejm's Family Committee on the draft law on assistance to persons entitled to alimony, a legal advisor to the Organisational and Legislative Committee of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools of Poland, a member of the University's Teaching and Learning Outcomes Committee, a member of the Monitoring Team and the University Council for Quality of Education, member of the Social Council of the Dr. Antoni Jurasz University Hospital No. 1 in Bydgoszcz, member of the KRASP Committee for Strategic Issues in Higher Education, member of the team developing the principles for the Law 2.0 project, lecturer at the School of Strategic Management in Higher Education. He was the author and co-author of several dozen publications on law and administrative procedure, also including the field of higher education.
In 2023, he was honored by the City Mayor of Toruń with the Copernicus Medal for his contribution to the organization of the World Copernicus Congress.
