Behind the curtain of resocialisation – conference
The Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences at Nicolaus Copernicus University is organising another edition of the nationwide scientific conference ‘Behind the curtain of resocialisation – controversies, challenges, perspectives’. The meeting of experts will take place on 17 October.
The growing dynamics of adult and juvenile crime, the increase in social pathologies and the emergence of new forms of them, including behind prison walls, pose challenges for contemporary resocialisation. For a long time, there has been growing scepticism about the implementation of the idea of resocialisation as subjective activities aimed at changing the behaviour of lawbreakers. The ineffectiveness of these measures applies in particular to broadly understood institutional resocialisation concentrated in correctional and penal institutions. It should be emphasised that solutions suggesting the priority of isolation and punishment over resocialisation and therapeutic measures are not only burdened with a false vision of the effectiveness of social deterrence, but also dangerously suggest the idea of abandoning solutions focused on improvement and readaptation.
The 9th edition of the conference 'Behind the curtain of resocialisation- controversies, challenges, perspectives' is intended by the organisers as an invitation to reflect and discuss various aspects of resocialisation and prevention activities, controversies and challenges that are subject to discourse due to changing social threats, analyses of original empirical research and reflections on the complexity of the human mind.
Following the example of previous conferences, it will be a platform for the exchange of experiences, thanks to which participants will jointly seek innovative and effective methods of social resocialisation, correctional and therapeutic interventions, both in conditions of isolation and in a broadly understood open environment.
