The use of the Online Visualisation of Argument analysis tool
The Institute of Advanced Studies invites the academic community to an open workshop focusing on the OVA (Online Visualisation of Argument) analysis tool used for argument annotation. The meeting is scheduled on Friday, June 19th 2026.
The main goal of the workshop is to provide participants with practical skills in using OVA. The tool is based on Inference Anchoring Theory (IAT), a theoretical framework for analysing argumentation in natural discourse, which links the inferential structure of arguments (premises and conclusions) to their dialogic and illocutionary moves. OVA enables its users to graphically represent the structure of arguments, making explicit the relations between propositions, inferences, and dialogic acts.
The resulting argument maps can be employed in research across a range of fields, including linguistics, cognitive science, argumentation theory, and AI (e.g. argument mining). The target audience therefore includes students and researchers working in these areas.
The workshop will be led by Dr. Angelo Delliponti and Eliza Wessel, MA both affiliated with Adam Mickiewicz University. The workshop is open, however participants must register beforehand.
