Orientation Week
The Department of International Cooperation once again organizes an orientation week dedicated to incoming Erasmus+ students. The program includes meetings for foreign students, interesting lectures, classes and workshops showing different aspects of culture that foreigners may encounter during their visit to Poland. Guests learn a lot of practical information about studying at the University in Toruń, as well as about life in the city. For many of them studying in Poland is the first foreign trip in their lives, hence, the effort to prepare them for a few months’ stay.

Inauguration of the academic year 2020/2021
On Thursday, October 1, the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń will inaugurate the new academic year. The organization of this year's ceremony will be prepared according to the restrictions resulting from the epidemic situation.
Members of the academic community and all interested persons are invited to participate in the ceremony remotely. A live broadcast prepared by the university television will be available at www.tv.umk.pl.

Run with a Book
The event will include the main run (due to the sanitary regime there will be no relay race). The distance will be 4,280 km (passus to the power of "Dziennik 1954", i.e. 1.48 meters to the power of 2 x 1954).
All contestants will run with the book in hand (minimum book weight is 100 grams). The runners who complete the run with the book by Leopold Tyrmand will take part in a special classification and will additionally receive NCU cosmic socks. In the classification "with Tyrmand" the result will be calculated using an algorithm taking into account the time of the run, book parameters and a special conversion factor, which will be revealed just before the start of the run.
Only registered participants will be able to take part in the run.
The organizer of the run is the NCU Alumni Programme.
General IA Seminar
Dr hab. Gracjan Maciejewski, prof. NCU will give a speech "Planetary tides in the WASP-12 and WASP-18 systems". You can find the abstract at Institute of Astronomy webpage. The General Seminar takes place in the virtual seminar room. The seminar starts at 11.15 a.m.

Dr Marcin Hajduk from University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn will give a speech "The origin of the [WC] central stars of planetary nebulae". "Working Women: Songs of Suffering & Suffrage"
On 26 October at 8:00 p.m., the entire Nicolaus Copernicus University community will be able to watch the performance of the famous New York opera for free.
The presentation is the result of the cooperation which dr habil. Anna Branach-Kallas, NCU Prof., director of the Institute of Literature Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, established with The American Opera Project as part of the NCN grant for the study of discourses commemorating the First World War.
