A decade of accelerated development
The Rectorate, library, faculty buildings, student residences, assistant hotels, swimming pool and main auditorium - all these landmarks on the NCU campus map were built between 1965 and 1975, the third decade of the existence of the Toruń University.
The NCU TV film “History of the Nicolaus Copernicus University | Decade 1965 -1975" begins by mentioning the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the birth of the university's patron. These were the impetus for the intensive development of the NCU's infrastructure. The wide-ranging premises significantly improved the conditions for studying and scientific activity, and thus the quality of education and research.
The decision of the International Astronomical Union to name one of the Moon's craters 'Dziewulski', in honour of Professor Władysław Dziewulski, also marked this page of history. The decade was rounded off by the establishment of the NCU Polar Station on Spitsbergen.
