Forty-two scholars from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń were among the most frequently cited scientists in the world. The updated lists were prepared on the basis of a comprehensive assessment of the scientific achievements of researchers from around the world, after calculating a complex bibliometric index (the so-called C-score), which takes into account factors such as the number of independent citations, the Hirsch index, and the author's place and role among co-authors.

The authors of the ranking prepare two publicly available lists: one collects data from the entire professional career (until the end of 2024), and the other only from the last calendar year (2024). The list takes into account the 100,000 best scholars according to the C-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2 per cent or higher in the subfield.
