European Alliances at the Forum

The role of university alliances in the transformation of higher education and the future of European education, including joint degrees, were the main topics of the 3rd Forum of European University Alliances in Wrocław.

The event, which was held on June 12 and 13 under the auspices of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union, brought together representatives of the European Commission, led by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, Director-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the EC, the European Parliament, higher education institutions and members of 65 alliances of European universities from more than 570 higher education institutions across Europe. The session was opened by Minister of Science and Higher Education Marcin Kulasek.

Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń was represented at the Forum by dr habil. Magdalena Barwiołek, NCU Prof., Vice-Rector for International Relations and Executive Director of Young Universities for the Future of Europe at NCU, and Karol Mojkowski, Head of the Department of International Partnerships and Educational Mobility, institutional coordinator of YUFE at NCU. On behalf of the YUFE Alliance, Secretary General Maria-Valerie Schegk and Julia Cora, Policy and Funding Advisor, also attended the conference.

Key subjects of the Forum revolved around the role of university alliances in the transformation of higher education, common challenges and good practices in the European Universities Initiative (EUI), and the education of the future - including the European diploma and collaborative programmes. Participants also discussed the strategic directions of the Union of Skills initiative, which aims to develop the skills of the future, as well as the long-term financing of the EUI, cooperation between universities and the socio-economic environment, and the development of innovation.
