The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has been published since 2012. It is the only academic ranking of universities from around the world that assesses education, alumni employment, academics and research on objective criteria, without the use of data provided by universities. Initially recognising the world's top 100 universities, the ranking was expanded in 2014 to 1,000 and in 2019 to 2,000 top universities out of more than 21,000 worldwide, making it the largest academic ranking.
The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń was ranked among the top 4.7 per cent of universities in the world, taking 1008th place in the global list, 376th in Europe and 11th in Poland (including sixth among universities). This year's list of 2,000 best institutions included 40 research and development units from Poland.
