NCU Joins the New YUFEPULSE Project
The YUFE Alliance receives new funding from the European Commission. Nicolaus Copernicus University will co-create the next stage of the European University.
The European Commission has announced the results of the 2026 Erasmus+ call for the European Universities initiative. Under this year's call, 20 alliances have been selected for funding, with each alliance eligible to receive up to 7.2 million Euro to support its activities over the next two years.
Among the selected alliances is Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE), of which Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń is a member. This means that, following two successful funding phases (2019–2022 and 2022–2026), YUFE is entering a new stage of development under the name YUFEPULSE.
The new funding, awarded through the Erasmus+ programme, takes the form of bridge funding. It will provide support that enables the Alliance to continue and further develop its most successful initiatives until the next European Union Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) begins in 2028.
For YUFE, this marks a transition from designing and testing new solutions to consolidating and implementing them on a larger scale. The YUFEPULSE project focuses on expanding initiatives that have already proven their value so that they can benefit even larger groups of students, staff, and partners across all member universities. The funding will make it possible to move from developing innovative solutions to implementing them more widely. Over the next two years, the Alliance will expand its joint educational offer, strengthen cooperation among its partner universities, and increase opportunities for students and staff to participate in joint courses, programmes, and other initiatives delivered within the framework of the European University.
An important aspect of this new phase will also be the strengthening of cooperation with regional partners, local authorities, businesses, and community organisations associated with the YUFE universities. The aim is to create even stronger links between academic activities and the needs of the wider socio-economic environment while ensuring that the solutions developed remain sustainable beyond the lifetime of a single project.
YUFEPULSE is intended to further strengthen YUFE's position as one of Europe's most advanced university alliances. The activities carried out under the project will contribute to the development of a more open, integrated, and socially responsible European Higher Education Area, built on the values of quality, equal opportunities, diversity, inclusiveness, multilingualism, and social responsibility.
Thanks to this new funding, Nicolaus Copernicus University, as a member of YUFE, will play an active role in the next stage of building a European model of academic cooperation, offering its community even broader opportunities to participate in joint educational, research, and societal initiatives.
