NCU open to Indonesia
The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń was the only university from Poland to participate in the 16th EHEF in Indonesia. The event is one of the key activities aimed at strengthening educational ties between the European Union countries and Indonesia.
The EHEF (European Higher Education Fair), organised in Indonesia by the EU since 2008, is the most important platform for European universities to interact directly with Indonesian young people planning to study.
In this year's edition, which took place in the city of Yogyakarta on 30 October and in Jakarta on 2 and 3 November, more than 60 institutions from 12 countries presented their offer: embassies of EU Member States and other government institutions, European universities, as well as scholarship agencies of Indonesia. Over the three days, more than 6600 people interested in studying in Europe visited the fair.
The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, represented by Magdalena Szwajda, Anna Kuczborska (Department of Promotion and Communication), Aleksandra Kowalska and Marta Żuchowska (Department of Admissions and Student Affairs), promoted the offer of English-language studies in Indonesia. The greatest interest among potential candidates was shown mainly by majors in the sciences and social sciences. There were also many people interested in continuing their education in doctoral schools.
In addition to the fair, the NCU delegation attended a meeting with the International Cooperation Office at Atma Jaya Catholic University and Saint Ursula's Secondary School, where the offer of studies conducted in English and the wide range of opportunities offered by an education at our University, with particular emphasis on the YUFE, were presented to candidates. The NCU representation was also hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Jakarta. During the visit, they discussed opportunities for cooperation with Indonesian universities, scholarship offers and the promotion of NCU in the region.
According to figures published by the National Academic Exchange Agency, the European Union's Erasmus+ programme and EU member states award around 1,200 scholarships to Indonesian students and researchers each year to enable them to study in Europe. Each year, more than 4,000 students and researchers go to study on the Old Continent. EU cooperation with Indonesia in higher education also includes relations between selected universities and the funding of partnerships between higher education institutions from Europe and Indonesia.
