Kotłownia with a colourful look
The facade of the Student Activity Centre has been transformed with new vibrant graphics – an eye-catching mural. The project was designed by the Student Mural Design Help Desk, as part of the YUFE social engagement initiative.
The Student Activity Centre Kotłownia is an inclusive space where students can spend time together. Its goal is to activate the Nicolaus Copernicus University community and revitalise student and doctoral student culture. The centre has two training rooms, a large room for meetings and band rehearsals, and a lounge area with foosball and beanbags.
Mural depicts students in their daily lives: studying, talking, and relaxing with games.
The purpose was to show how students can spend their time in Kotłownia - explains Agata Tarkowska, the mural's designer and a third-year painting student from the Mural Painting Studio at NCU. - 'I also wanted to refer to the name of the place and convey its character.
The mural itself took several months to complete in cooperation with colleagues from the Faculty of Fine Arts: Natalia Kwiatkowska and Daria Neshchadym. The work was created as part of the activities of the Mural Design Help Desk, which is part of the NCU Student Help Desk network and operates under the YUFE initiative. For those, who are interested, it provides help in designing and making murals on facades and other architectural elements. As part of the cooperation, students design wall paintings for specific walls according to the guidelines of investors. The mural on the Kotłownia Centre is not the first realization of an idea created as part of the Mural Design Help Desk's activities, but this is the first time it has been done on behalf of a NCU unit.
NCU Student Help Desks operate as part of the YUFE (Young Universities for the Future of Europe) initiative. Their idea is to strengthen the university's community with the social environment. Through this platform, students – under the substantive supervision of NCU professors – share the knowledge and experience they have gained at the University, answering questions, providing advice and giving support. There are currently 12 Student Help Desks at NCU, including a legal, health, patent and archival emergency room.
