In a special interview accompanying the inauguration of the World Copernican Congress at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, Prof. Phillip James Edwin Peebles talked about the Copernican legacy, the impact of Copernicus' discoveries on the world of scientists, and the biggest challenges facing modern astronomy.

- We are fortunate to have so many open questions," said Prof. Peebles, a prominent Canadian-American physicist, cosmologist, astrophysicist and astronomer, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics, who was the guest speaker at the inauguration of the World Copernican Congress, co-organized by UMK on the 550th anniversary of Nicolaus Copernicus' birth. - There is so much to be done by the next generation of scientists. I can mention a few examples: is there life on other planets in the Solar System? Or on nearby planets around other stars? What is the nature of dark matter? What is the nature of dark energy? They are real puzzles.
