Cooperation with Chinese universities
Two cooperation agreements, including student exchange and dual degree programmes, were signed with the authorities of Anhui University and Beijing International Studies University by dr habil. Magdalena Barwiołek, NCU Prof., Vice-Rector for International Relations during her visit to China.
Thanks to the agreement with Anhui University, learners of Chinese at the NCU will be able to study for free at the partner university and will also receive free accommodation. The agreement was signed on behalf of AHU by Vice-Rector Professor Huang Zhixiang.
Cooperation with Anhui University - a general university with a similar profile to that of the NCU - has been ongoing since 2012. It is one of our university's most important partners in China. For many years, the NCU students have participated in summer schools funded by the AHU, and between 2014 and 2018, around 40 NCU students studied there as part of the one-year scholarships of the East and Central Europe Scholarship programme. This enabled them to learn the Chinese language and learn about Chinese culture. Some of them are today pursuing a professional path related to the Chinese language.
During the meeting with the authorities of Anhui University, Prof Magdalena Barwiołek also discussed broadening cooperation, including exchanges not only of students, but also of doctoral students and research staff. Possibilities for joint research projects were also discussed, including in the field of chemistry.
A 2+2 co-operation agreement has been signed with Beijing International Studies University (BISU), enabling Polish Philology students from Beijing to pursue two years of studies at the Faculty of Humanities in a joint programme. The agreement makes it possible to obtain a double diploma - Polish and Chinese. The Polish diploma is recognised throughout the European Union and offers a wide range of professional opportunities on the European market. For the Chinese side, the document was signed by Prof. Guo Zhengjun, Vice-Rector of the University. Prof. Cheng Wei, Vice-Rector for Science at BISU, also attended the meeting.

Moreover, the authorities of Beijing International Studies University expressed interest in developing cooperation and declared their readiness to invite the NCU academic staff to give lectures to students in China. During the meeting, other forms of cooperation were also discussed, including, for example, the 1+1 programme at Master's level or joint initiatives in fields other than Polish Philology.
The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń was represented by Prof Magdalena Barwiołek, Vice-Rector for International Relations, and dr Maciej Szatkowski, Director of the Centre for Chinese Language and Culture at the NCU Faculty of Humanities.
