Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, as the only institution from the region, has been included in the respected Best Global Universities ranking. The list is prepared primarily with students in mind who are looking for universities outside their home countries.

Best Global Universities is a ranking developed by the American company U.S. News & World Report. It is one of the four most important international listings of this kind.

Thirteen indicators were taken into account in its preparation. Higher education institutions are described and compared with other universities in the world, on the continent, and in their country. The achievements of researchers in individual fields are also considered. The indicator carrying the greatest weight for the final result is a university's global and regional research reputation. In addition, factors such as the number of publications, citations, and the level of international cooperation are also included.

In the latest, eleventh edition of the ranking, 2,250 universities from 105 countries were listed, including 45 from Poland. The podium of the world's best universities is occupied by Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University.

The highest-ranked institutions from Poland are the Jagiellonian University, the University of Warsaw, and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. From our region, only one university was included—the Nicolaus Copernicus University, which placed within the top ten, ahead of, among others, the University of Gdańsk, the University of Łódź, and the University of Silesia. Among European universities, it took 388th place, while in the overall global ranking it was positioned in the middle of the table.

In the subject ranking, our university was included on eight lists: plant and animal sciences (position 613), physical chemistry (638), biology and biochemistry (668), chemistry (733), materials science (953), environment/ecology (946), physics (964), and clinical medicine (997).

The full ranking is available on the website.
