We have a medal in Paris!
An NCU student, Mirosław Ziętarski, won a bronze medal in the rowing men's quadruple sculls competition at the Olympic Games in Paris. He rowed in the Polish crew together with Dominik Czaja, Fabian Barański and Mateusz Biskup.
The Poles, World and European Championships medallists, were considered favourites for an Olympic medal in Paris. They were expected to fight for the victory against the defending champions from Tokyo - the Dutch, as well as the strong Italian and British teams.
This is what happened on the Parisian course - after fierce rivalry, the Dutch were first to cross the finish line, followed by the Italians in second and the Poles in third, defending against the British, who were attacking the podium.
The Polish scull swam the 2000m distance in 5:44:59, losing 2'59" to the winners
The bronze medal won during Wednesday's finals is the third medal for Poland at this year's Games in Paris (after Klaudia Zwolińska's silver medal in white-water canoeing and the bronze medal in the team competition of women fencers), the 20th in the history of Polish Olympic rowing and the 301st in the history of the Polish national team's Olympic starts.
